Talented Karratha; The Most Recommended Photographers of the Pilbara
With its unique landscape, forever summer weather conditions, crystal blue seas and the contrast between the shore and desert, Karratha is a truly beautiful location. Is it really any wonder as to why it is a draw card for photographers and snap happy Instagrammers? Anyone can take a snap shot, but it takes a true artist to dig deeper and truly express the beauty of the wild and wonderful Australian outback and its inhabitants. We asked the locals just who they thought best captured the life of this Pilbara town.
Boasting a 2016 AIPP PPA Silver Aware for her Family Photography and voted 2016’s Best Of Karratha Photographer, it is obvious to see why Erin Hardy was repeatedly mentioned. Erin’s casual style perfectly captures the joy of life, love and family in the desert setting. Her pastel toned maternity images set against the Monet-esque sea inspire expressions of Venus proportions. Erin aims to highlight the personality of the subject within each frame, resulting in relaxed and candid imagery any person would be thrilled to hang on their wall. In true Karratha style, Erin also offers workshops to those looking to increase their photographic skills.
Endless Captures Photography
Another photographer often mentioned was Endless Captures Photography. Combining the talents of Marg Bertling and Courtney McFarland, Endless Captures brings a different kind of magic to the Pilbara. Whilst they specialise in weddings, families and portraiture, the duo offers fantasy packages that allow the subject to live their dreams of becoming a princess or even a real life mermaid.
Marg is also the lady behind Pilbara SITE PICS, an aerial and commercial photographic business that is behind many of the mining and Pelago imagery seen out and about.
Not to be forgotten is Rhythm and Hart Photography. Meagan is inspired by love, utilising what she calls “The Beloved” technique in her sessions; creating a personal space to celebrate life, joy and love. Rhythm and Hart’s photos are often candid in nature, capturing those moments so often missed in the speed of life. Her vintage stylings effortlessly convey story within a single frame, and we know for sure that Meagan has often used Pelago Karratha as a setting for many of her portraits.
We may be a little biased, but Tess O’Reilly of Earth and Water Photography had already made our list of Karratha’s best photographers. Having spoken to her about her experience relocating, we have spent many hours viewing her romantic and dreamy imagery. Tess sees beauty in everything around her and is determined to share her incredible view of the world with others.
EB Photography
Emma Byrne, the talent behind EB Photography, came as another recommendation. Specialising in portraiture in the great outdoors, Emma’s imagery often encompasses shots of local families among the stunning Karratha landscape. Her joyful images perfectly express the beauty of the golden outback.
Jessica Kate Photography
Jessica Kate is another portrait photography worth viewing in the Pilbara region. Her light and vibrant images breathe the warmth and love of her subjects through each and every frame. Joy is her subject and she captures the emotion superbly.
For the lover of abstract landscapes, Look Left Photography has much to offer. Showcasing a very different view of the Pilbara, Ryan Powles’ images offer a unique perspective of the world around us.
For those interested in photography, Karratha has its very own Facebook chat group dedicated to the art form. Meeting every second Thursday, the team at Red Dirt Camera Club love to swap stories, photos and learn from one another.
